The
religion of Islam as taught by Prophet Muhammad, there are instructions on how human should respond to life and realize that this
life is more meaningful. Islam teaches that life is dynamic and progressive, being
balanced in the material and spiritual needs, constantly developing social
care, respect the time, being open minded, quality-oriented, egalitarian,
partnership, loving cleanliness and putting fraternity. In the Qur'an and
hadith was found that the largest proportion is shown in social affairs.
In
the study of social science, it found some structural-functional theory, which
states that everything that does not work
will disappear by itself. While Islam as a religion, still exist. That means that Islam has a number of roles and functions in society. However in reality, Islam in the follower is far from the ideal goal. Muslims worship, such as prayer, fasting, charity, hajj and so on, just for paying liability and became a symbol of piety, while religious dimension of social care less visible. This indicates that an error has occurred among the Muslims to understand and appreciate the religious symbolic message. As a result, religion is experienced as an individual and not as a rescue social blessing, such if God is not present in our social problems. Though Islam is a religion that has many dimensions, ranging from the dimension of faith, minds, economics, politics, science and technology, environment, history, peace, until the household life and many more.

Islam
as a religion, present a mission of liberation the people from oppression and
injustice. But day by day, the mission of Islam is not always visible at the
level of the realities of life. The reality of the Muslim society is still
covered with an ignorance, poverty, social inequality and economic injustice.
This happens because the understanding of the Muslim community against Islam
still shackled at the symbolic level and formalistic. The success mission of Islam
only interpreted on how many followers gathering together and crowded for doing
religious rituals, celebrate the big day, the outward affirmation of identity.
As a result, Islam became far away from the reality of society.
Islam
should serve as one of the tool liberation is far from social reality. The
basic function of Islam which is contained in principles of humanity has been forgotten
and has no attention at all. Therefore, the duty of Muslims is how to restore
the basic functions and principles of Islamic revelation in a goal of human
life. Then there is statement that religious discourse is very necessary by
changing the form of interpretation in diversity Muslim community. The understanding
of Islam must change from theocentric towards anthropocentric so that the
function and existence of Islam will be liberated from the shackles of
formalistic, symbolic, God - oriented and text - oriented. Islam will fuse and
collaborate with human reality and community oriented. Islam should not be
understood as a religion which only deal with the problems of ritual ('ubudiyyah)
, while social problems (mu'amalah) only becomes' sweeter' for religion attitude.
Muslims must be awakened from their hibernation to attract Islamic teachings in
order to be realized.
